Capernaum on Sea of Galilee

Ruins of ancient synagogue, Capernaum on Sea of Galilee, Israel

Capernaum was an ancient fishing village on the Sea of Galilee, and the site of two ancient synagogues as revealed by archaeological expeditions. The church located a short distance away is said to have been built by Saint Peter. The town is cited in the Gospel of Luke.

“When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed Him, “I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.” Luke 7:9-10
